With its micro climate, warmed by the Gulf Stream, Garlieston is on the Solway Coast, 15 miles south of Newton Stewart, and 7 miles south of Wigtown, on the sunny Machars peninsular. The safe sandy beach of Rigg Bay is just 5 minutes walk from the cottage. A pub serving meals 2 tennis courts and a children's play area can be reached within a half hour stroll of Pavilion Cottage. Pretty coastal walks take you left to Garlieston beach and the village of Garlieston and right to the cliffs and the ruin of Cruggleton Castle. Look out to sea and you may spot a seal or two. Fishing for sea bass, mullet and mackerel is popular here. Lobster and mussels are also found locally.
Immediatley beyond the cottage grounds are the lovely Galloway House Gardens, with arboretum, species rhododendron and woodland walks, and
a small holding with rare breed sheep, hens and Indian runner ducks and the organic dairy farm lie beyond. It is a beautiful and peaceful location. The clear skies make it ideal for astronomers. Shooting stars and the northern lights have clearly been seen from the garden.
5 miles beyond Garlieston is the town of Whithorn with a post office, vet, doctors surgery, a cafe, a newsagent and an Aladdin's cave of a grocers store. Celebrated as the home of Scotland's first Christian, St Ninian, Whithorn has a museum with ancient artifacts and a coffee shop. St Ninian's Cave at Glasserton, and the harbour village of Isle of Whithorn are worth a visit.
The world famous 7Stanes mounttain bike trails, 30 golf courses, 9 gardens to visit and the stunning Galloway Hills can all be easily reached. Nearby Wigtown has 18 second hand and new bookshops, many with rare and specialist collections as well as a huge range of popular and children's titles. A farmers market is held there fortnightly most of the year and an annual literary festival with a week long program of musical, literary and film events takes place at the end of September.

Pavilion Cottage, by Galloway House Gardens and Rigg Bay (the cottage)

Pavilion Cottage sits within the walled garden of Garlieston House on the Galloway House Estate, former home to the Earls of Galloway.

A large enclosed lawn area with a rose garden herbaceous border and shrubs frames the cottage. Beyond, the enclosed area but within the walled garden is a private heated swimming pool available usually between late April and mid October.

Within the cottage are 2 ground floor bedrooms, one with a disabled access ramp via a french window to the garden. The bathroom, with large walk in shower is also on the ground floor so handy for those who cannot manage stairs.

The living room has 2 sofas and a wood burning stove, digital TV/DVD with Netflix, a collection of books games, CDs and DVDs. The staircase lead up from here to a and galleried landing and study/store. The living area extends to the garden room with dining area and window seats looking out across the pretty walled garden. In the summer you can open the main door straight onto a terrace for al fresco dining.

In the small but fully equipped kitchen is a 3 oven range cooker, 5 ring ceramic hob, microwave and fridge freezer. An outbuilding houses the washing machine and tumble dryer.

This cosy cottage, with lovely beams and heaps of charm is for adults only, and makes a perfect writer's and artist's retreat, romantic getaway or honeymoon hideaway.
