More about Bala (the location)

'Barn Owls' (one of three cottages) is part of a sensitive conversion of a former stable block that once served Bryn Tegid Country House and provides a quiet peaceful haven from the pressures of modern life set amid the stunning scenery of the Snowdonia National Park.

The cottage is located in an elevated position at the head of a meadow close to the shore of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) and has unrivalled views across the water to the mountains of Southern Snowdonia. Access is via a private single-track lane, there is no through traffic.

Wildlife is abundant. Red kites and buzzards are often seen and heard wheeling overhead, whilst foxes and badgers are frequent visitors to the adjacent meadow.

Despite the feeling of solitude, the cottage is not isolated. The market town of Bala is just over half a mile away and has excellent facilities with a good range of craft shops, restaurants, pubs and leisure centre.

Lake Bala is the largest natural lake in Wales and is widely recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty and is also deservedly renowned amongst water sports enthusiasts.

For the energetic visitor, not wholly content to simply unwind and soak up the atmosphere, there are wonderful country walks and cycle rides from the cottage doorstep. Anyone seeking a little more adrenalin is well catered for with white water rafting, fishing, canoeing, sailing and climbing all available in the immediate area.

Bala provides an excellent touring base for exploring the many attractions of Snowdonia and the lesser known rocky coves and sandy beaches of the Mid Wales Coast.
