More about The Old Shippon (the location)

Located on the fringes of Exmoor is the two bedroom Old Shippon Cottage. With beautiful countryside views and ideal location, this is a lovely peaceful retreat for exploring North Devon and beyond.

Within a few minutes drive of the cottage you can be enjoying the beauty of the National Park, exploring it on foot, by bike or just admiring the views from the comfort of your car. There are several excellent pubs located on Exmoor, including The Royal Oak in Withypool and The Exmoor Forest in Simonsbath. A little closer to the cottage is The Black Venus in Challacombe, which offers excellent food in a family and pet friendly environment.

The Old Shippon is within a short drive of two pretty North Devon villages. Challacombe has its own pub, as well as a lovely village store and post office. Bratton Fleming also has a very good village store selling a good variety of products, including fresh sandwiches and pastries.

A little further afield is North Devon's largest town. Barnstaple is a wonderful market town with good range of shops, supermarkets, banks and supermarkets. Its pannier market is also well worth a visit. Other attractions in the town, include a theatre, multi-screen cinema, leisure centre, bowling arcade and tennis centre.

The Old Shippon is less than a 20 minute drive from the coast. The beautiful golden sands of Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton offer excellent days out for families and water sport enthusiasts, whilst the smaller inlets at Combe Martin, Lee Bay and Tunnels Beaches provide somewhere a little quieter and more relaxed.

Local attractions in North Devon, include Exmoor Zoo, which is less than a five minute drive from the cottage, Watermouth Castle, Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, The Big Sheep, Ilfracombe Aquarium, Arlington Court, Dartington Crystal and The Milky Way. There are also several excellent gardens and museums within the local area.

The Old Shippon (the cottage)

The pretty two bedroom Old Shippon comfortably accommodates up to four and is the perfect retreat for families, couples or dog owners.

Recently refurbished, the barn conversion has a lovely mix of old and new with warming wood-burners in the dining area and lounge, wood beams, wood floors and beautiful countryside views. The cottage is also very well-equipped.

To the front of the cottage is a sunny terrace area with lawn. Here you can sit back and relax, whilst watching the children play, enjoy an alfresco meal or stoke up the BBQ. The garden is also fully enclosed so ideal for children and dogs.

Inside the cottage has an open plan kitchen/diner with elegant dining table and arm chair located infront of the wood-burner. The modern kitchen is fitted with a fridge, dishwasher, microwave, oven and hob. A washing machine is situated in the utility area, which is also handy for drying clothes or storing muddy boots.

The cottage's living room is on the first floor as has wonderful views stretching out across the countryside. There are sofas and armchairs for relaxing and French doors open out onto a small balcony. The wood-burner is also great for chilly evenings.

The two bedrooms are located on the ground floor of the cottage and include a pretty double and a good sized twin. Both bedrooms share the family bathroom, which is equipped with a bath with over-head shower, loo and sink.

Up to two dogs are welcome at the cottage.
