More about Lee Bay (the location)

Lee Bay is situated on the coast between Ilfracombe and Woolacombe in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Wooded and sometimes known as the Fuschia Valley, the road to the village and the bay winds its way down from the main road with distant views to the sea coming ever closer over the fields . Individual houses and cottages can be seen along the way. Lee has its own part rocky, part sandy beach , a favourite with rock poolers and a walk through Smugglers Path and over the rocks leads to another safe beach, Sandy Cove. If Woolacombe is a surfers’ paradise then Lee Bay with its tidal nature is heaven for kayakers . Walkers will also love The North Devon Coastal Path which passes through the village and offers spectacular scenery along the way. For those who prefer cycling to walking , The Tarka Trail can easily be picked up at the head of the valley and stretches for mile on safe mile. If you prefer less active pursuits cream teas are available at the pub tea rooms. The delights of Ilfracombe with its picturesque working harbour, Damien Hurst’s ‘Verity’ and trips to Lundy on the Oldenburg are only a stretch away as are the big surfing beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde. But at the end of a packed day it’s magic to turn your back on the crowds and get back to the peace, beauty and tranquillity that is Lee Bay . People do and return for more helpings year in year out.
