Weir House at Bruern Holiday CottagesBruern Holiday Cottages have been national winner of the English Tourism Council's Excellence in England Gold and Silver Awards for Self-Catering Holidays. Styled with elegance and opulence Weir House manages to combine a sense of grandeur with family friendly comfort.
Through the arch on the left is the kitchen, floored in the same honey coloured Cotswold-stone as the dining room, with Shaker units in Farrow and Ball off-white; a big island unit; a vast American-style side-by-side fridge-freezer with icemaker; a range cooker and two dishwashers. It can cater for 30 people dining. Doors lead out onto the terrace, so lunches and dinners outside under the vine-covered pergola are an enticing summer possibility. Folding doors at the far end of the dining room lead to the oak-floored games room. Big double doors and shallow steps lead down into the large drawing room; it has a Gothic arched fireplace in stone, big enough to burn a young tree in, a high-pitched ceiling and massive beams. It occupies the width of the house: the two windows on the left look out onto the North terrace, lawn and flower beds, and the window and French doors on the right have a view over the South terrace, a deep woodland border and trees.
The bedrooms are split across two floors. There are two double bedrooms and three twin rooms, all en-suite. Each of the 5 bedrooms are designed with a wealth of antique furniture from dramatic four poster beds to Louis the XVI chairs and 19th century writing desk all complemented by the muted tones of the Farrow and Ball painted walls. This cottage can sleep a further 4 in cots or camp beds upon request.
Weir house not only meets the appreciation of the adults in the group but the little ones will be overcome by the endless amounts of children's toys and games. From the vintage dolls house in the hall, children's den under the stairs, with puppet theatre and dressing up box, not to mention the traditional rocking horse, games room and home cinema.
There is also a special play area for children with a mini-playground, two-storey Wendy house and a heated play cabin with dressing up clothes, toys, art materials and fantastic retro pedal cars and tractors.
Outside Weir House, the luxury continues with its pretty garden with pergola and dining terrace and croquet lawn. The house has everything needed not just for a truly relaxing and luxurious family holiday but also is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion.
In the beautifully landscaped communal gardens and grounds, facilities include a tennis court, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, a gym and the Stables Spa offering all sorts of treatments and pampering, including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. Our spa has been featured on Tatler’s 101 Best Spas in the world.
Bruern's central location makes it an excellent base for exploring The Cotswolds - Oxford is half an hour away, Stratford-upon-Avon and the Shakespeare National Theatre under an hour, and Cheltenham (racing and the annual Literary Festival) much the same. There are lovely wildlife walks in the neighbouring Nature Reserve at Foxholes and along the Oxfordshire Way, which runs through Bruern.
Bruern is also easy to get to by both train and car - Central London is just an hour and a half by either, and there are direct trains from there to Kingham station which is just 5 minutes drive away. It is also about the same distance from Birmingham and Bristol.
