More about Kyle of Lochalsh (the location)

This part of Scotland is known as Kintail and is situated between the western end of Loch Duich and the eastern end of Loch Cluanie. Loch Cluanie was created as part of the Hydro electrification of the Highlands. This is a mountainous area containing 17 Munros the most famous of which are “The Five Sisters of Kintail” which are in fact only 3 Munros!

Many consider that Kintail is one of the last great wildernesses which is still accessible to the main parts of Scotland. The greater part is now owned by The National Trust of Scotland and Kintail and Morvich estates cover an area of approximately 29 square miles or more simply 18560 acres

Tigh An Aullt (the cottage)

This 3 bedroom bungalow is the highest of all the houses in the township of Allt na Chruine. Its peace & tranquillity needs to be experienced to be believed. The views of the surrounding mountains, streams and loch are splendid in their grandeur and keep you forever looking out of the windows!

There is a special visitor that comes in the evenings, the Pine Marten! To ensure a visit put out bread and butter with strawberry jam, either on the ground or on the table. There is an outside light that is switched on beside the patio door, this does not worry the Pine Marten.
