Close to the historic town of Whithorn on the Machars peninisular and only a mile from a secluded pebble beach and within walking distance of St Ninian’s Cave said to be Scotlands birthplace of Christianity.

Within about 45 minutes drive of the Galloway Forest and fishing lochs, Marl House is also well placed for visiting many of the regions highlights: beautiful natural bays and sandy beaches, 30 golf courses, 20+ gardens open to the public, the Galloway Hills, Southern Upland Way, 7Stanes mountain bike trails, outdoor activitiy centres, ice cream maker and adventure playground at Cream O' Galloway.

To the west lies Portpatrick with pretty waterfront shops and cafes, and the ferry port town of Stranraer, where you can take a day trip to Belfast on the giant sea cat ferry.

The market town of Newton Stewart just 35 minutes drive to the North has numerous shops including an award winning butcher, delicatessen, supermarkets, outdoor clothing and country sports stores, banks, cinema, chemist, health centre, vet, filling stations, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Wigtown, Scotland's National book town is only 13 miles north, with around 18 bookshops including specialist, rare and antiquarian volumes. A few miles east on the Machars peninsular you will find the fishing villages of Garlieston, with 2 sandy beaches and a harbour view pub, and Isle of Whithorn with excellent harbour side pub and restuarant and Scotland's smallest digital cinema. Marl House (the cottage)

Marl House is extremely spacious with 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms 3 en-suite, plus cloakroom. Comfortably sleeping 16 in a mix of double and twin beds, and an optional ground floor bedroom with zip and link beds, which doubles up as a reading room when not needed for accommodation. Additional beds can be provided for large gatherings of up to 20 on request.

This ground floor bedroom enables disabled guests to have full access on the ground floor to a wet room with shower WC and WB and the nearby beautiful drawing room, farmhouse kitchen with aga and table seating 10 and formal dining room seating 12.

Additionally on the ground floor is a WC with washbasin a games room with table tennis, and a well equipped laundry/utility room. Another family room with optional dining for a further 8+ guests leads off from the dining room. Many of these ground floor rooms have immediate access to the huge garden and terraced seating area,

The kitchen is well equipped with additional cooker and hob, and American style fridge. The utility offers heaps of freezer space microwaves, a butlers sink and plenty of storage for provisions.

The drawing room with wood burner, has three comfortable sofas as well as armchairs TV, DVD and stereo and collection of DVD, CDs, books and games. Additional seating areas are dotted all over the house for a quiet space to enjoy a book or private phone call.

The bedrooms are spaced across two upper floors with two of the en-suites in opposite wings. You get a real country house feel from all the space and beautiful furnishings at Marl House.

A large catering size charcoal barbecue will encourage guests to eat al fresco in the warmer weather. And the spacious garden and proximity to good walks, yet distance from a main road, makes Marl House a great place to bring your four legged friends. Up to 3 well-behaved dogs will be considered for a fee of £30 per dog, but please discuss the suitability.
