THE OLD BARN ROWLING END at Fellside Holiday CottagesWainwright saw Newland’s greatest blessing as the undisturbed peace, a freedom from mass tourism and commercialisation, the valley continues to enjoy a way of life that in essence has not altered. Rowling End itself was a working farm until the 1950s and the land in front of the house provides sheltered pasture for sheep and cattle from neighbouring farms.
Whilst secluded, Rowling End is at the heart of the Northern Lakes within easy distance whether on foot, bicycle or car from Borrowdale, Derwentwater, Keswick and Buttermere. For walkers the great joy of Rowling End is the ability to walk from the house, whether you are looking for a full days hiking across the tops of the mountains (Wainwrights the Newlands Round or the Coledale Round) or a gentle stroll around the valley or down to the Lake (Half an hours walk from where you can get a ferry around the lake or across to Keswick).
